GÉODE
Assessing the openness of an educational environment

• by Annie Jézégou et Yasmina Allag • update: 24/11/2021

How can we assess the degree of openness of our learning environment? What are the components likely to give the learner freedom of choice and action?

GEODE is a tool for both engineering and research that allows you to automatically evaluate the openness of your educational environment, whether it is distance learning, face-to-face or both. GEODE proposes a list of 14 components likely to give your learners freedom of choice and action. Its use is based on a set of guidelines, steps and calculation bases. At the end, the application delivers and illustrates the GEODE score obtained for each of the 14 components, more globally, for the educational environment studied. This score is expressed as a percentage of openness, ranging from "closed" (no freedom of choice offered to the learner) to "highly open".
